Bronic's individual statement and address to the United Nations Ninth Review conference of the Biological Weapons Convention

The COVID-19 pandemic delayed a number of diplomatic meetings but also surfaced a new context to long-standing difficult issues such as international (Cyber)Biological security.

The Ninth Review Conference for the United Nations’ Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) was held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 28 November to 16 December 2022.

The BWC is a disarmament treaty that effectively bans biological and toxin weapons by prohibiting their development, production, acquisition, transfer, stockpiling and use.

The Ninth Review Conference (RevCon) of the BWC provides States parties with an important opportunity to advance biological disarmament and chart the future course of this increasingly important treaty.

Bronic delivered an individual statement and address, emphasizing the significance of an active security design process and the inclusion of non-traditional expertise within a scientific advisory board for a systematic monitoring mechanism of Science and Technology developments. Bronic also hosted a side event during the RevCon to further discuss how the BWC can remain relevant in the current (cyber)biotechnological landscape.
